T-O holds off the Lions

Nighthawks earn finals berth with 42-37 victory

Brandon Hovde scored 14 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, and Tekoa-Oakesdale survived a late charge to beat Moses Lake Christian 42-37 on Friday in the Class 1B boys state tournament semifinals.

The win advances the Nighthawks (19-9) into Saturday's 7 p.m. championship game against defending champion Sunnyside Christian (19-5).

T-O held an 11-point lead early in the fourth quarter, but MLC charged back with a 12-4 run capped by two 3-pointers by Adrian Moffet to cut the Nighthawks' lead to 39-37 with 1:41 to play.

But the Lions missed four field goals in the final minute, and T-O held on despite missing three of four free-throw tries in the final 56 seconds.

Hovde converted 9 of 12 shots, including both 3-point tries. He also had a game-high 11 rebounds. Teammate Kelly Cook added nine points, two assists and two steals.

Moffet ended with 20 points on 8-of-25 shooting, eight rebounds and two blocked shots. Isaac Murrell added eight points.

MLC slipped to 16-7.
