 Rosalia tops 'Hoosiers'

Maley scores 15 to lead Spartans' 51-40 victory

Jim Maley led three Spartans in double-figures with 15 points as Rosalia beat North River 51-40 Wednesday in the Class 1B boys state tournament.

Teammates Zack St. John and Bob Baskett added 13 and 10 points, respectively, as the Spartans shot 40 percent (22 of 55) from the field. North River, making its first state appearance since 1966, converted 25 percent (15 of 60).

Loren Pickering led North River, the smallest WIAA school to field a basketball team without pairing with another school, with 13 points and nine rebounds. Jakob Berentsen added 10 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Rosalia held a 45-41 rebounding advantage. Maley had a game-high 14 rebounds, and St. John had eight. Jeff Oliver had 11 rebounds for North River.

Rosalia improved to 18-8. The Mustangs fell to 13-9.
