Castor leads Lions past Mary Knight, 48-42
TOURNEYTOWN.COM
Melissa Castor sank
three free throws in the final 24 seconds to help North Sound Christian
turn back Mary Knight, 48-42, in the consolation bracket of the Class 1B
girls state tournament Thursday.
Castor, who finished
with a game-high 23 points, scored 10 of her points in the fourth
quarter. Elyse Bunger added 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Lions.
It was the first-ever
victory for NSC at the state tournament.
Mary Knight took its
final lead of the game when Amanda Vera sank a field goal to open the
fourth quarter and make the score 33-32. But the Lions then reeled off
10 straight points, sparked by a Castor trey, for a 42-33 lead with 4:25
to play.
The Owls rallied back
again, closing within two points on two occasions, but couldn't get
closer.
Teryssa Toppano led
Mary Knight with 14 points, and teammate Alicea Scott pulled down 12
rebounds.
Castor and Hannah
Reymore each added eight rebounds for the Lions. Reymore also dished out
six assists.
