Blackhawks' defense helps power 43-33 victory

TOURNEYTOWN.COM

Lorissa Cultee scored a team-high nine points to lead Lummi to a 43-33 consolation victory over Curlew in the Class 1B girls state tournament Thursday.

Merisa Jones added eight points, and Jaysonha Revey pulled down eight rebounds for the Blackhawks, who improved to 18-6.

Lummi played without the services of star Sara Brady for half the game because of foul trouble. Brady finished with just five points, 12 off her average.

Larissa Miller and Mackenzie Wilson each had 13 points for Curlew, which finished its season at 15-12. Wilson also pulled down a game-high 17 rebounds.

Lummi's defense shined. The Blackhawks came away with 18 steals, including four each from Revey and Amanda Humphreys, and helped force Curlew into 24 turnovers.

Curlew also suffered from poor shooting. The Cougars made just 10 of 45 shots (22.2 percent) for the game, including just 5 of 24 (20.8 percent) in the first half.
