Bulldogs come up shy

Clarkston holds off late Ellensburg charge for 50-47 win

TACOMA -- Don Perconti scored 21 points, Dustin McConnell scored 13, and Clarkston held off a late Ellensburg rally to beat the Bulldogs 50-47 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 2A boys state tournament.

Perconti and McConnell both made three 3-pointers to lead the Bantams (17-6), who led 39-22 early in the third quarter.

The Bulldogs (16-10) rallied to tie the score at 45-all with 1:33 left in the game on a Joe Jenkins bucket.

Clarkston made 5 of 6 free throws down the stretch to hold on, while Ellensburg missed a shot and a pair of free throws, and turned the ball over once.

The Bantams were 20 of 25 from the free-throw line, while the Bulldogs connected on just 5 of 15 attempts.

Jenkins led Ellensburg with 15 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals.
