Standish leads Bulldogs

Gonzaga signee leads Ellensburg to 49-41 win over Lynden

TACOMA -- Gonzaga-bound center Kayla Standish scored 16 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and blocked six shots to lead Ellensburg to a 49-41 win over Lynden Wednesday night in a first-round game at the state 2A girls basketball tournament.

The Bulldogs (21-4) also got 14 points from Deaira Gordon and nine from Tana Ferrell. Gordon was 4-for-6 from 3-point range. The six blocks by Standish was just one shy of the single-game tournament record held by two players.

The Lions (16-10) were led by 11 points and four steals from Brandi Benner. Shelby Miller scored 10 and had a team-high five rebounds.

   Lynden -- Shindruk, Benner 11, Korthuis 4, Swanson 3, Fluit 2, Toronchuk 2, Salminen 4, Miller 10, Beard, Webb 2, Lindquist 3. Totals 15-48 7-14 41.
   Ellensburg -- Minor 3, Gordon 14, Ferrell 9, Wyatt 5, Standish 16, Prigge 2, Kelleher, Bland. Totals 18-41 8-15 49.
