TACOMA -- Brandan Hardie scored 12 points and Daniel Igbinoba added 10 points and seven rebounds, and Cheney beat Prosser 54-46 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 2A boys state tournament.

The Blackhawks (17-7), in the state tournament for the 24th time, shot 45 percent (19 of 42), helping offset 23 turnovers and poor foul shooting (16 of 28). DeAngelo Jones had eight points and eight rebounds and Mike Sprenger scored eight as well to help a balanced Cheney attack.

Kellen Crawford paced the Mustangs (19-5) with 17 points, 14 rebounds and three steals. Prosser, which won the 2A football title, was hoping to duplicate what Lynden did last year in winning the football and boys basketball titles in the same school year. But Prosser was just 17 of 58 from the field.
