TACOMA -- Freshman
Tamara Jones scored 13 points, grabbed eight rebounds, blocked four
shots and had four steals to lead Prosser to a 47-42 upset victory over
Pullman Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A girls state
tournament.
The Mustangs (19-6) trailed by 10 points in the second quarter and shot
just 28 percent in the first half. They shot 10-for-22 from the field in
the second half to fuel their comeback. Prosser also made 11 of 14 shots
from the free-throw line, with Lacie French was a perfect on her eight
tries from the line. French finished with 10 points. Jordan Brown had 12
points and four steals.
The Greyhounds (22-2) were one of the tournament favorites but shot just
23 percent from the field (14-for-61). Leading scorer Shelby Cheslek, a
freshman, scored 11 points and had a game-high 10 rebounds — but she
made just 2 of 10 shots.
Kirsi Voshell added nine points and Anna Albrecht had seven for Pullman,
but the pair made just 6 of 24 shots from the floor.
