Squalicum downs Rams 53-37 with big fourth quarter

SEATTLE -- Nick Stackhouse scored 11 of his 23 points during a decisive 14-2, and Squalicum moved into the Class 3A semifinals with a 53-37 win over West Valley of Yakima on Thursday night.

The Storm (24-1) advance to play top-ranked Rainier Beach in a semifinal game on Friday.

Evan Berndt led West Valley (20-7) with 14 points, and Jared Robinson added 10.

Squalicum, which led by as many as 11 points midway through the second quarter, saw the Rams get within one late in the third quarter, 29-28. Stackhouse started the winning surge with two free throws, giving the Storm a 31-28 led at the end of three quarters.

After a layup by Kyle Hooper made it 33-28 to start the fourth, Stackhouse scored seven straight points, draining a 3-pointer, a 15-footer, and two free throws. He capped it with two more free throws, putting Squalicum up 43-30 with 2:30 left in the game.

Stackhouse had 20 points on Wednesday as the Storm scored a 74-43 first-round victory against West Seattle. Stackhouse averages 17.5 for the season. Patrick Voeut chipped in 11 points for Squalicum.
