Late trey lifts Rams

Larson's three-pointer gives West Valley 42-39 victory

SEATTLE -- Junior Amy Larson hit a 3-pointer with 48.1 seconds left to put West Valley up by three, and the Rams held on for a 42-39 win over Seattle Prep in the quarterfinals of the Class 3A girls state tournament on Thursday.

With 1:03 left Prep's Dae'veonna Munson hit a 3 to tie it at 39 and set up Larson's heroics. Prep had a chance to tie, but when Monica Salazar went up for a 3-pointer a West Valley player got a hand on the ball, forcing a jump ball. After hitting the floor Salazar took the 3 and made it, but it came after the whistle.

Salazar's desperation shot fell short at the buzzer.

Sophomore Haley Curtis had 15 points to lead West Valley (19-5), which shot 44 percent in the second half en route to the win.

Candace Chambers led Prep (23-6) with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

   Seattle Prep -- Chambers 11, Munson 9, Blais 8, Gummersal 7, McMillan 2, Taylor 2, Salazar, Brown. Totals 15-51 7-10 39.
   West Valley -- Curtis 15, Larson 10, Sillery 8, Bealer 3, Fannin 2, Richarson 2, Winkfield 2, Herzog, Curry, Permann. Totals 14-43 11-17 42.
