Prosser places third

Jones scores 22 to lead Mustangs to 79-51 win

TACOMA -- Tamara Jones scored 22 points, and Prosser outscored Elma 24-8 in the first quarter on its way to a 79-51 victory and third place in the Class 2A girls state tournament.

The Mustangs lead reached as much as 30 points at 72-42 in the fourth quarter. Prosser shot 46 percent compared to only 29.5 percent from Elma.

Jones led the way, making 7 of 17 shots and 7 of 9 from the free throw line.

Elma's Megan Goldsmith tried to keep the Eagles in the contest with 21 points, but they didnt have an answer for the strong shooting of the Mustangs.

Jordan Brown and Lacie French added 15 and 12 points, respectively, for Prosser. Brown also had a game high 10 rebounds.

Katie Colard added 14 points and Brandi Thomas contributed with 10 for Elma.

   Prosser -- Jones 22, Brown 15, French 12, Mercer 8, Field 6, Cornwell 4, Evans 3, Concienne 3, Hunt 2, Morrow 2, Anderson 2, Wilson. Totals 30-68 5-14 79.
   Elma -- Goldsmith 21, Colard 14, Thomas 10, Gran 2, Blanchard 2, Haas 2, Hargadon, McDonald, Nauman, Flowers, DeMar, Stenek. Totals 18-61 6-19 51.
