David Downs scored a game-high 21 points as 10th-ranked Bellevue Christian stopped Brewster 50-43 on Thursday in the Class 1A boys state tournament quarterfinals.

Downs scored 15 points after halftime, including eight straight that rallied the Vikings (19-6) to a 30-23 lead with 3:46 to play in the third quarter. Brewster (22-6) never got closer than three points the rest of the way.

Downs made 9 of 20 shots, including 2 of 7 3-point tries. The Vikings converted 41 percent (17 of 42) of their shots, but the Bears were cold, making just 27 percent (14 of 52).

Jeff Rerucha added 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Vikings.

Wade Gebbers led Brewster with 16 points, but made just 4 of 14 shots. Stockton Taylor chipped in 15 points. Eli Driessen, averaging 14 points a game, was held to two.

The Bears connected on only 2 of 21 3-point attempts.
