Cascade stops Rainier

Newell's 14 points lead Kodiaks' 43-32 win

Leah Newell scored 14 points as Cascade pushed past Rainier 43-32 in the Class 1A girls state tournament consolation bracket Thursday.

The Kodiaks (19-9) slowly pulled away in the fourth quarter, though they were never able to totally shake Rainier.

Ashley Wright pulled down 11 rebounds for Cascade, and teammate Amber West added 10.

Kristen Schoenherr led Rainier (15-11) with 14 points and Chelsey Owens had 11 and six rebounds. Kate Simpson had a team-high seven rebounds.

Schoenherr grabbed four of the Mountaineer's 11 team steals.
