KieOsha Avery and Eva Grassl each scored 13 points as Connell rallied back from a sluggish start to beat Onalaska 46-36 on Thursday in the Class 1A girls state quarterfinals.

Avery put the Eagles (23-2) ahead to stay with layup that gave Connell a 27-25 lead with 4:04 to play in the third quarter. That basket came in the middle of a 12-0 Eagles run that ended with a 35-25 advantage with 1:31 to go in the quarter. Onalaska got no closer than eight points.

Yessenia Vergara added 10 points for the Eagles, who made 41 percent (16 of 39) of their shots.

Amber Durand led the Loggers (16-9) with 25 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including 6 of 12 3-pointers. She scored 11 in the second half, but her teammates combined for only two points after intermission.

Avery pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds. Connell dominated the backboards, 39-17.
