Freeman nets third

Taylor leads Scotties to 37-22 victory with 17 points

MacKenzie Taylor scored a game-high 17 points as second-ranked Freeman rebounded from a tough semifinal loss to beat Connell 37-22 for third place Saturday in the Class 1A girls state tournament.

The Scotties (26-1) earned their fourth state trophy in their sixth appearance after falling 43-42 to Seattle Christian with no time left in Friday's semifinals.

Leading 19-16 at the half, Freeman opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run that blew the game open. Connell didn't get closer than 10 points the rest of the way.

Eva Grassl led Connell (23-4) with 10 points.

The Eagles earned their 17th trophy in 24 state appearances.
