Amanda Humphreys scored a team-high 12 points, and Sarah Brady added eight of her 11 in the second half as Lummi held off Pateros 49-42 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 1B girls state tournament.

Tied 26-26 at halftime, Lummi fired off a 15-2 run to start the third quarter and take control of the game, 41-28.

Pateros never got closer than the final margin.

Brady had four points and Shelby Landsem three during that charge.

Pateros outshot the Blackhawks, making 35.9 percent (14 of 39) of its shots to just 30 percent (21 of 70) for Lummi.

But the Nannies hurt their cause with 32 turnovers. Humphreys and Brady led Lummi's 21-steal defensive performance with five each.

Lorrie Mattson led Pateros with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and teammate Jamie Bruno chipped in 16 points.
