SJE topples No. 2 ACH

FitzGerald, McCanna lead Eagles' 60-42 rout of Warriors

Alyssa FitzGerald and Kadee McCanna each scored 13 points in the second half as St. John-Endicott toppled second-ranked Almira/Coulee-Hartine 62-40 in the first round of the Class 1B girls state tournament Wednesday.

SJE trailed 25-23 at halftime, and quickly knotted the score on a basket by McCanna to open the third. ACH sank a 3-pointer, but the Warriors then missed its next 17 shots, and SJE scored 16 straight points to take the lead for good.

FitzGerald scored a game-high 22 points and McCanna 17 for the Eagles. FitzGerald converted 6 of 10 shots and McCanna 7 of 8 as the Eagles converted 55 percent (11 of 20) in the second half.

Madeline Isaak and Sarah Gloyn each poured in 15 points for ACH, which made just 18 percent (6 of 33) of its shots after halftime.

Trisha Luft pulled down a game-high nine rebounds for the Eagles, and McCanna added eight.
