Cody Weber swished six free throws in the final 2:29 and AJ Therien added four more as Pullman withstood a late Mark Morris charge to eliminate the No. 2-ranked Monarchs, 56-45, from the Class 2A boys state tournament Thursday.

Weber, whose 11 points shared team-high scoring honors with Jamie Fertakis, made 11 of 16 free throws in the game. Therien made all six of his tries, all in the second half.

Pullman (18-8) led 35-19 entering the fourth quarter before MM closed the gap, using pressure defense and four 3-pointers, including two from Nic Thacker.

The Monarchs whittled their deficit to two, 47-45, on a Cameron Carson 3-pointer with 2:16 to play but couldn't get closer. Pullman put the game away at the free-throw line.

The Greyhounds made 28 of 44 free throws and converted 46 percent (12 of 26) of their field-goal tries, including 57 percent (4 of 7) in the second half. Mark Morris made just 23 percent (11 of 47) of its shots in the game.

Thacker led MM (20-5) with 11 points, and John De Vries added 10 on 10-of-15 free-throw shooting. Jon Suek grabbed 11 rebounds.
