Fife stops Hawks, 54-44

Hayes' 12 points paces Trojans' 54-44 first-round victory

Cameron Hayes scored eight of his team-high 12 points in the second half as Fife pulled away from Hockinson in the second half for a 54-44 first-round victory in the Class 2A boys state tournament Wednesday.

Anthony Brescia and Damien Fisher added 10 points each for the Trojans (17-6), who never trailed in the contest.

Fife shot 56 percent (22 of 39) in the game to Hockinson's 37 percent (13 of 35). The Hawks (13-11) made just 6 of 21 shots (29 percent) in the second half.

Mitchell Tugaw led the Hawks with 13 points and Joshua Hall added 10.

Thomas Darnielle pulled down a game-high eight rebounds for Fife, and teammate Neiko Thigpen grabbed seven.
