 Hawks rebound for third

Neal's 12 points helps River Ridge past Fife, 49-40

Ray Neal scored 12 points and Joel King added 11 as third-ranked River Ridge captured third place in the Class 2A boys state tournament with a 49-40 win over Fife on Saturday.

The victory capped the Hawks' 22-5 season and earned the team its second trophy in four state trips. The Hawks also finished third in 2007.

The Hawks shot 44 percent (15 of 34) for the game, while Fife (18-8) shot 34 percent (15 of 44). The Trojans overcame a cold-shooting first half (27 percent), but couldn't catch up in the second half.

Damien Fisher, Cameron Hayes and Anthony Brescia scored seven points each for the Trojans.

Ross Creamer pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, grabbed five steals and dished out three assists for the Hawks.

Fife earned its fourth state trophy.
