Bellingham beats Fife

Late spark lifts Red Raiders to 42-33 win over Trojans

Emily West sparked a 9-1 run with the go-ahead field goal, and Bellingham went on to a 42-33 consolation victory over Fife in the Class 2A girls state tournament Thursday.

West canned her shot with 4:53 to play, lifting the Red Raiders (14-13) into a 29-28 lead that they wouldn't surrender. Shannon Gowan added a 3-point play, Devin Pearsall chipped in two free throws and Gowan hit another field goal that put Bellingham ahead 36-27.

Fife didn't get closer than five points the rest of the way.

Pearsall poured in a game-high 22 points, and Gowan finished with seven.

Skelly Kilcup led the Trojans (10-15) with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Pearsall sank 6 of 20 shots and 9 of 10 free throws. She also pulled down 10 rebounds.
