Mallorie Schoesler sank two free throws and Shanique Nilles canned four more in the final 1:11 as West Valley of Spokane toppled fifth-ranked Hockinson 50-46 in the Class 2A girls state quarterfinals Thursday.

West Valley (20-5) led the entire game, rolling out to a 13-point lead early in the fourth quarter. But Hockinson then went on a 17-6 run that closed the margin to 44-42 with 1:19 to play.

Then Schoesler canned two free throws and Nilles made four more to hold off the Hawks (21-4) the rest of the way.

Nilles scored 12 of her team-high 19 points in the second half. Schoesler finished with 13 points, with nine after intermission. Hannah Love added 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.

Daron Dean led the Hawks with 19 points and 13 rebounds, with nine points during the Hawks' fourth-quarter rally. Amanda McCarty added 14 points and eight rebounds, and Michelle Haagen had 10 points.
