Huskies to play for fifth

Kirkwood scores 13 to lead Othello's 48-40 win over No. 3

Christine Kirkwood scored 13 points to lead 10th-ranked Othello to a 48-40 upset win over third-ranked Black Hills on Friday in the Class 2A girls state consolation bracket.

Justine Villareal added 12 points, including the go-ahead 3-pointer in the second quarter that pushed the Huskies (18-8) ahead 13-10. It was Othello's only trey of the game in 17 tries.

Allison Walker pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds for Othello, which outrebounded Black Hills (22-4) 51-40.

Black Hills, led by Chelsea Haskey's 15 points, shot just 23 percent (14 of 61) from the field and fell behind 24-14 at halftime after hitting just 5 of 31 first-half shots.

The victory sends the Huskies into Saturday's 8:30 a.m. contest for fifth and eighth places.
