Free throws lift Elma

Eagles sink nine foul shots at end to beat Kingston 52-49

Brandi Thomas sank two free throws, and Katie Collard made seven straight at the end to lift Elma past Kingston 52-49 on Friday in the Class 2A girls state consolation bracket.

Thomas' foul shots with 1:51 to play snapped a 43-43 tie. After Kingston sank a free throw, Colard made seven of eight shots in the final 1:21 to pull out the game for the Eagles (18-6).

Thomas and Colard each finished with 18 points. Collard sank 10 of 12 free throws, and Thomas canned all eight of her tries.

Thomas also finished with 11 rebounds.

Sophia Baetz led Kingston (18-8) with 18 points, and Arissan Ugles added 11 points and nine rebounds.

Baetz' 3-pointer with nine seconds left cut Elma's lead to 50-49 before Colard sank her last two free throws.

Elma made 23 of 28 free throws in the game; Kingston canned 17 of 28.

The win sends Elma into a Saturday game against Ellensburg at noon for fourth and seventh places.
