WV rallies to beat B-E

Love leads second-half charge as West Valley wins 34-29

Hannah Love scored 13 of her game-high points in the second half as West Valley of Spokane rallied back to beat Burlington-Edison 34-29 on Wednesday in the Class 2A girls state tournament.

Nicki Lawless, who added 10 points for the Eagles (19-5), canned a 3-pointer to open the fourth quarter and snap a 23-23 tie that gave WV the lead for good.

After a cold-shooting first half in which they made just 3 of 24 shots, the Eagles warmed up, making 37 percent (7 of 19) after intermission. Love was 3-for-8 in the second half, but swished both her 3-pointers in the final two periods.

Kristine Thoe led the Tigers (17-7) with 11 points, and Brenna Anderson had eight points and 10 rebounds.

The Eagles outrebounded B-E 45-32. Shanique Nilles pulled down 11, while also dishing out an assist, grabbing three steals and blocking a shot.
