Sophia Baetz scored a layup with 11 seconds left, and Kingston withstood a final River Ridge shot to hang on for a 55-54 overtime win in the Class 2A girls state tournament Wednesday.

Baetz, who finished with a game-high 29 points, was fouled on the layup, but she missed the free throw. The Buccaneers rebounded but turned the ball over and, after a timeout, RR's 3-point attempt with five seconds left missed its mark, and Kingstong's Laura Wicklein grabbed the rebound.

Baetz, whose layup with 32 seconds to go in regulation knotted the score at 47-47 and forced overtime, made 10 of 16 shots and 7 of 9 free throws, and Wicklein added 10 points for Kingston (18-6).

Jasmine McDonald chipped in 18 points and grabbed six rebounds for the Hawks (14-10).

The Buccaneers, who trailed 22-16 at halftime, shot 57 percent (8 of 14) in the second half.
