Meridian stops Freeman
Slesk leads Trojans' 56-48 quarterfinal win with 18 points

Zach Slesk scored 18
points and led three Trojans in double figures as eighth-ranked Meridian
beat No. 7 Freeman 56-48 on Thursday in the Class 1A boys state
quarterfinals.
Mike Hayes added 15
points and Josiah Sebens 14 as the Trojans (18-7) built a 26-17 halftime
lead then held off Freeman down the stretch.
Meridian shot 53
percent in the game, including 56 percent (10 of 18) in the second half.
Freeman (19-6) was cold, making just 32 percent (19 of 60) shots,
including only 4 of 17 3-point tries.
Taylor Vold scored 19
points to lead Freeman, while Peter Heinen chipped in 12 and Cody Unfred
10.
The Scotties
outrebounded Meridian 38-28. Chase Watson grabbed nine for Freeman;
Hayes snared eight for the Trojans.
