Pioneers earn a trophy
Big third-quarter run powers Nooksack to 55-37 victory

Jon Carroin scored a
game-high 18 points as Nooksack Valley rode a second-half charge to
eliminate Lakeside of Nine Mile Falls 55-37 in the Class 1A boys state
tournament Friday.
The Pioneers, who
improved to 16-12 and will play at 8:30 a.m. Saturday for fifth or
eighth place, put the game away with a 15-1 run to open the third
quarter.
Lakeside (12-15) never
got closer than 16 points the rest of the way.
Nick Westergreen added
12 points and Jesse Salmonson 10 for NV.
The Pioneers shot 45
percent (24 of 53) to the Eagles' 30 percent (14 of 46).
Jacob Erickson led
Lakeside with 11 points, and Chris Cochrane chipped in 10.
Carroin pulled down a
game-high nine rebounds.
