Joe Harris scored a game-high 27 points and set the Class 1A boys scoring record as the Goats edged Nooksack Valley 62-60 on Saturday for fifth place in the state tournament.

Harris finished with a career 2,398 points, breaking the previous mark of 2,382 by Ryan Hansen of Cascade (Leavenworth) set in the mid-90s. Harris set the mark late in the first quarter, when the Goats jumped to a 14-point lead. (Watch the record-breaking shot.)

But the Pioneers slowly rallied back, taking brief leads in the fourth quarter before Michael Amsel Jr.'s two free throws with 4.4 seconds left broke a 60-60 tie and lifted Chelan to the win.

A last-ditch shot by the Pioneers was well off the mark as the buzzer sounded.

Aaron McQuaid added 17 points and 10 rebounds for Chelan (26-2), which earned its ninth trophy in 23 state appearances.

Harris was 6 of 18 from the field and 11 of 12 from the free-throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds, dished out three assists, blocked two shots and came up with four steals.

Kyle Impero scored 25 points to lead the Pioneers (16-13). He made 11 of 17 shots.
