Connell gets 2nd upset

Eagles rally past No. 5 Okanogan, 44-40

Connell's Eagles battled back from a 14-point deficit after one quarter to post its second upset in two days, beating fifth-ranked Okanogan 44-40 on Thursday in a Class 1A girls state quarterfinal game.

Maci Whitby scored 15 points and Sarah McGary added 11 for the Eagles (18-8).

Connell, which trailed 19-3 early in the second quarter, slowly whittled its deficit, taking the lead for good on a Laryn Wells basket with 5:34 to play in the third that started a 7-1 run.

It was the second straight upset for the Eagles, who beat No. 1-ranked Seattle Christian on Wednesday.

Kara Staggs scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs (22-3), and Jameka Townsend added nine.

McGary led the Eagles' rebounding effort with nine and Whitby added seven.

Morgan Kerr grabbed nine rebounds for Okanogan.
