Lynden Christian used a big first quarter to power its way past Chelan, 44-28, in a Class 1A girls state quarterfinal contest Thursday.

Ashley Carhuff scored six of her team-high 10 points in the first period, when the Lyncs (23-3) used a 15-4 run in a game in which they led the entire way.

Chelan (21-5) never got closer than seven the rest of the game.

Kayleigh Ryan added nine points and Jasmine Hommes and Coryn Bajema scored eight each for the Lyncs.

Kelli Bowers led Chelan with 10 points, and Houston Robison pulled down 10 rebounds.

But the Goats suffered from poor shooting. They made just 18 percent (8 of 44) of their shots.

The Lyncs came up with 11 steals, including five by Ryan.
