Maci Whitby's field goal with 2:05 to play pushed Connell ahead to stay, and the Eagles sank six free throws the rest of the way to upset defending champion Seattle Christian 33-27 on Wednesday in the first round of the Class 1A girls state tournament.

Sarah McGary, who sank four free throws in the final 1:19, finished with a team-high 14 points. Whitby ended with five points, and Karen Bjorge, who closed the scoring with a free throw, had eight.
