Wellpinit gains 1st semi
Redskins sink No. 1-ranked Rosalia, 63-53

Kennedy Seyler scored
seven of his 14 points in the fourth quarter to help lift Wellpinit to a
63-53 upset quarterfinal victory over top-ranked Rosalia on Thursday in
the Class 1B boys state tournament.

Cody Flett led the
Redskins (23-3) with 20 points, including three free throws in the
closing minutes as Wellpinit repeatedly kept turning back Rosalia
charges. Drake Wynne finished with 11.
The win sends
Wellpinit into its first-ever semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday.
Jim Maley led the
Spartans (23-1) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Zach St. John chipped in
11 points, and Nathan Richards pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Rosalia never led, and
trailed by nine, 42-33, late in the third quarter before rallying back
to tie the score twice early in the fourth quarter.
But Wynne pushed
Wellpinit ahead to stay with a free throw that made it 45-44 with 6:40
to play that sparked a 14-3 run that sealed the outcome.
