Nate Taylor scored nine of his 11 points in the second half as Pateros held off Lake Quinault 43-40 on Saturday for fifth place in the Class 1B boys state tournament.

The Billygoats (22-5), which captured their first trophy in the 1B ranks, held off a late Lake Quinault charge for the win. A last-second Elks 3-pointer bounced off the rim as time expired.

Rylan Easter chipped in nine points and Abram Wilson added eight points and 10 rebounds for Pateros, which built a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter only to have Lake Quinault rally to trim the margin to three points, 34-31, with 6:22 to play in the game.

But the Billygoats went on a 6-1 run, including four points from Wilson, to push the score to 40-32 with 2:26 to play. LQ never got closer than the final margin again.

Cameron Daniels led the Elks (17-10) with 22 points, including three 3-pointers. Cameron Pumphrey scored eight and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Lake Quinault finished eighth for the second straight year.
