No. 1 Rosalia rolls, 44-23

Maley scores 13 points to lead Spartans past Lopez

Jim Maley scored 13 points as top-ranked Rosalia cruised to a 44-23 victory in its opening game Wednesday at the Class 1B boys state tournament.

The Spartans (23-0) took at 10-7 lead after the first quarter and slowly started to pull away. Lopez (16-8) never got closer than nine points in the second half.

Rosalia shot 44 percent (20 of 45) in a fast-paced but controlled-tempo game. Other than Maley, no player on either team scored more than seven points.

Nathan Richards led Rosalia with 11 of his team's 41 rebounds.

Lopez, led by Alex Buffum and Mica Arps with seven points each, suffered from 20 turnovers and 21 percent shooting.
