Kelsey Simon poured in a game-high 21 points as St. John-Endicott advanced to the Class 1B girls state trophy round with a 62-38 consolation victory over Cusick on Friday.

SJE (22-4) will play at 10 a.m. Saturday for fifth and eighth places. The Eagles previously have earned second- and fourth-place trophies.

Alli Winters added 11 points for SJE, which effectively put the game away with a 25-12 run in the second quarter that gave the Eagles a 39-22 halftime lead.

SJE shot 47 percent (14 of 30) in the first half, and made 39 percent (23 of 59) of its shots in the game.

The game was SJE's first since its 64-48 loss to Almira/Coulee-Hartline in Wednesday's first round. The Eagles received a forfeit win Thursday from Northwest Yeshiva, which refused to play for religious reasons.

Andrea Heinen led the Panthers (12-15) with 12 points. Lydia Treischel and Jaimi Adams each added eight, and Adams pulled down six rebounds.

Kelly Van Lith grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked five shots for the Eagles.
