Simon lifts SJE to fifth

Eagles race past Neah Bay with 49-30 victory

Kelsey Simon poured in a game-high 16 points as St. John-Endicott cruised to fifth place in the Class 1B girls state tournament with a 49-30 win over Neah Bay on Saturday.

Kelly Van Lith added 12 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds for the Eagles (23-4), who trophied for the fourth straight year.

Overall, the Eagles captured their 12th trophy in 16 state appearances.

Simon and Trisha Luft each grabbed four steals as the Eagles' defense came up with 14 takeaways and helped pressure the Red Devils into 27 turnovers.

Luft also pulled down 10 of SJE's 46 rebounds. Van Lith blocked five shots.

Erica Fonzi scored six points to lead the Red Devils (23-2), and Cherish Moss brought down eight rebounds.

Neah Bay earned its third trophy in four 1B state appearances.
