Nannies hold off Cusick

Mattson's 21 leads Pateros to 32-22 first-round victory

Lorrie Mattson scored 21 points and led Pateros past Cusick 32-22 on Wednesday in the Class 1B girls state tournament.

Mattson made 10 of 20 shots as the Nannies (17-6) built a 16-6 halftime lead and kept Cusick at bay in the second half.

Mattson grabbed eight rebounds as Pateros battled to a 39-37 rebounding edge. Chancy Gill added six rebounds.

Lydia Treischel and Andrea Heinen led the Panthers (11-14) with six points each. Heinen hauled down 10 rebounds.

Pateros took advantage of 27 Cusick turnovers, converting them into 20 second-half points.
