Storm flattens Ephrata
Ephrata's Simon scores 48 in 77-62 loss to Squalicum
TOURNEYTOWN.COM
Behind the 28-point
performance of Derek Dickerson, top-ranked Squalicum earned a return
trip to the Class 2A boys state title game with a 77-62 semifinal
victory Friday.
The Storm's victory
overshadowed the record-breaking scoring effort of Ephrata's 6-9 senior
Patrick Simon, who poured in 48 points. That shattered the previous mark
of 38, set by Wapato's Willie Blodgett in 2009.
Simon hit 13 of 27
shots, including 7 of 16 3-point attempts. He was 15-for-15 from the
free-throw line.
Simon's performance
pulled Ephrata back into a game that seemingly was over early in the
second quarter. After the Tigers (22-3) took a 6-2 lead, Squalicum
(25-1) ran off 27 straight points for a 29-6 lead just two minutes into
the second period.
The Tigers battled
back behind Simon, who scored 33 points in the second half, but could
never get closer than 13.
Dickerson made 10 of
15 shots, including 8 of 12 3-pointers. Patrick Voeut and Michael Greene
added 14 each, and Keith Stackhouse chipped in 11.
The Storm face
Burlington-Edison in Saturday's 7 p.m. championship game. It's a rematch
of the 2009 title game, which Squalicum won 60-49.
