Simon leads Ephrata to 58-50 victory with 25 points
TOURNEYTOWN.COM
Patrick Simon poured in
25 points as Ephrata held off Lynden 58-50 on Saturday to capture third
place in the Class 2A boys state tournament.
Simon, headed to
Washington State next year, scored 14 in the first half as the Tigers
took a 26-21 halftime lead.
Ephrata (23-3) led
36-25 late in the third quarter, however Lynden (21-7) cut its deficit
to 51-50 on two free throws by Ryan Seto with 2 minutes to play.
But Ephrata scored the
final seven points of the game, including four by Simon, to negate the
threat.
Simon made just 6 of
20 field-goal attempts but was 13 of 19 from the free-throw line. In
Friday's semifinal loss to Squalicum, Simon made all 15 free-throw
tries.
Ross Buchert added 11
points and Randall Tupling 10 for the Tigers, who won their ninth trophy
in 14 state trips.
Ryan Seto and Blair
Bomber scored 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Lions, who
captured their 30th state trophy in 44 appearances.
