Eagles take third, 44-34

Nilles scores 17 to lead West Valley past Burlington-Edison

Shanique Nilles scored 17 points and West Valley of Spokane held off a late Burlington-Edison charge Saturday for a 44-34 victory and third place in the Class 2A girls state tournament.

Hannah Love added 12 points for the Eagles, who finished 25-1 and finished third for the second straight year. WV earned its fifth trophy in six appearances.

The Eagles jumped out to an 18-2 lead midway through the second quarter, but the Tigers (22-5) battled back, pulling within 33-26 with just under five minutes to play. However, they couldn't get closer.

B-E shot just 19 percent (3 of 16) in the first half, but hit 50 percent (11 of 22) of its shots after intermission.

Brenna Anderson led B-E with 16 points and eight rebounds.
