Katie Colard poured in 25 points to lead third-ranked Elma past Squalicum 65-44 in the first round of the Class 2A girls state tournament Wednesday.

Colard sank 10 of 24 shots, including three 3-pointers, as the Eagles (20-4) built a 39-25 halftime lead and was never threatened in the second half.

Carly Meister scored 17 points, and Brandi Thomas added 15 points and 15 rebounds. Meister grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds for Elma.

Elma shot 43 percent (28 of 65) for the game, including 49 percent (16 of 33) in the first half. The Eagles turned 10 Storm turnovers into 13 points.

Taylor Ulrich scored 20 points for Squalicum (17-8), and Kortney Grattic and Sarah Stackhouse each grabbed six rebounds.

Colard also finished with six assists and three steals.
