Free throws the difference as Brewster wins 44-40 in overtime

YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC

Kaylan Crane calmly sank two free throws with 52 seconds to play in overtime to give Brewster the lead for good as the ninth-ranked Bears upset No. 2-ranked Burbank in the Tourneytown.com Shootout on Monday in the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Melanie Todd added two free throws in the final 14 seconds to ice the contest for Brewster, which improved to 9-2.

Burbank suffered its first loss of the season and slipped to 11-1.

Brewster, the defending Class 1A state champion, trailed by nine points, 35-26, midway through the fourth quarter before rallying. Kyla Evans lead the charge with five points, including the game-tying layup with 59 seconds to play in regulation.

The Bears had a chance to win the game in regulation, but Chelsi Todd missed two free throws with 17.6 seconds remaining.

The Coyotes, however, were unable to get off a shot before the buzzer, which sent the game into OT.

Evans led all scorers with 22 points, and Crane had 11. Evans also pulled down a team-high 12 rebounds.

Nicole Woods led Burbank with 15 points, and Hayley Clemmens had 18 rebounds.
