Kittitas rallies back
to edge Crusaders

Bruketta sets scoring record with 26 points

All Kittitas coach Scott Wilson and Coyotes' standout senior Cristina Bruketta could talk about was that fourth-quarter performance.

Kittitas' Cristina Bruketta (44) broke the individual game scoring record with 26 points in her team's matchup with Riverside Christian on Monday.

No, not the 12 points Bruketta tallied in the final period en route to a Tourneytown.com Shootout record 26.

But the seven points and six rebounds backup Molly Webb had in the final period to help the Coyotes rally from an eight-point deficit going into the fourth quarter to beat Riverside Christian 55-48 on Monday morning at the Yakima Valley SunDome in a nonleague matchup of top-10 Class B teams.

Webb finished with nine points and six boards.

"Molly Webb was he key to the game," Wilson said. "She had key rebounds; she had key points."

Or, in even simpler terms: "Molly Webb did an awesome job," said Bruketta, hardly a slouch herself in helping the seventh-ranked Coyotes improve to 12-1 and handing No. 9 Riverside Christian (8-4) its second straight loss.

After going scoreless in the third quarter, Bruketta put the Coyotes on her ample shoulders. The 5-8 senior shot 4-for-5 from the field, including a 3-pointer, as Kittitas erased the Crusaders' lead in the first three minutes of the fourth.

Bruketta, who topped the 22 points Brewster's Kyla Evans scored against Burbank at last year's event, gave the Coyotes their first lead of the game with a jumpshot that made it 44-42.

Riverside Christian, meanwhile, was unable to get untracked in the fourth. The Crusaders missed their first five shots of the quarter -- often with Webb retrieving the rebound   -- before Katelyn Edler ended the drought with a breakaway layin to tie the score 44-44 nearly halfway through the period.

The teams would exchange leads a couple times before Edler again scored on a layup to knot the score at 48-48.

Those were the last points the Crusaders would score against the Coyotes, who defeated Riverside Christian at last year's regional championship game.

"We thought we had the team to beat them this year -- and we did for three quarters," RC coach Curtis Cleveringa said. "This one was marked on our calendars."

Webb's performance helped offset the foul trouble teammate Stephanie Mifflin. The junior guard picked up her third foul just more than a minute into the second quarter and played just four minutes before halftime.

Mary Labee scored a team-high 16 points to help the Crusaders build a 10-point lead in the third quarter, but was held scoreless in the fourth. Elder and Katie Van Beek each scored 10 points for the Crusaders and Sharelle Wells added 11 rebounds.

Shawna Gibb had eight points and as many rebounds.
