Selah, W. Valley
to close Shootout
Six
local schools to play in annual hoops event
YAKIMA HERALD-REPUBLIC
The Selah-West Valley basketball rivalry isn't
losing any luster despite the two schools playing in different leagues.
Both the boys and the girls basketball teams
from each school will face off in the sixth annual Tourneytown.com
Shootout on Jan. 21 -- Martin Luther King Jr. Day -- in the Yakima
Valley SunDome. The Selah and WV boys teams will play at 7:30 p.m., and
the Viking and Ram girls teams will close the nine-game slate at 9 p.m.
The old Mid-Valley League rivals found
themselves in different leagues after the WIAA's reclassification
started before the 2006-07 prep season. The rivalry kept going, though,
and West Valley came out on top last year. The Rams won the boys matchup
76-55 and the girls game 64-52.
Granger, Grandview, Davis and Eisenhower are
also on the schedule, which was announced Monday. The Granger boys, a
Class 1A state participant last year, takes on the defending champion,
Brewster, at 10 a.m. Grandview, eighth at last year's 2A tourney, meets
Chelan at 11:30 a.m.
The Chelan girls, sixth a year ago at the Class
1A tourney, play Davis at 1 p.m., and the Davis boys meet Kamiakin at 3
p.m. The Southridge girls take on Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m., with the Suns
boys team playing its Cadet counterparts at 6 p.m. The Ike boys were
fourth in Class 4A last year.
Brewster, a Class 1A state participant last
year, plays the powerful Colfax girls team at 8:30 a.m. to start all the
action. The Bulldogs have won the past four 1A state championships. |
