off for Coach When Diane Axelson began her volleyball coaching career, she
knew almost nothing about the sport in which her Meridian team would
win a Class 2A championship in 2004. "The first game she coached,"
says her husband, Ken, "was the first one she'd ever seen."

home volleyball match for the Colfax Bulldogs was essentially a Sue
Doering love-fest. That is, the town, the school and the volleyball
community turned out, nearly 200 strong, to remind their coach just
what they thought of her.

Christian Sprints to the Finish It was as though Riverside
Christian's volleyball team started the season with a flat-out
sprint even though the finish line was two months away. Returning to
competition for the first time since winning the Class B state
championship a year ago, the Crusaders played a total of 23 games in
